Defender's Blood Tatiana's War (An Urban Fantasy) Page 15

“Lexi? What's going on?” Michael had moved and was now sitting up staring down at a very white face. A face that scrunched up as she moved quickly from their bed.

His little angel ran for the bathroom and fell to her knees in front of the toilet. Not a moment too soon either as she started to vomit violently.

Michael rushed to her back and held her long hair back out of the way while grabbing a large bath towel and wrapping it around her naked shoulders. Shoulders which were now shaking as her whole body trembled.

Fear raked through Michael. The twins were never ill. Not once. What the hell was going on?

Michael felt Conall. Lexi's twin was in their apartment. “Lexi? Michael? What's going on, I can feel Lexi. She's being sick!”

Conall's voice was laced with fright as his first thoughts had also been that they were never ill. What was wrong with his sister?

Michael shouted as he didn't want Conall walking in and finding them both naked. “I've no idea. Go get your mother.”

Conall didn't answer, he just moved, appearing in his parents office.

Alex smiled up at her son. He didn't normally pop in for a visit, it was a pleasant surprise. That was, for a brief second, before she saw his expression.

“What's wrong Conall?” Alex got up from her desk and moved to her son.

“It's Lexi, something's wrong with her.” Conall's voice was barely a whisper. The fear now coursing through his whole body.

“Zach.” was all Alex said and her mate stood up and nodded his head.

All three moved and appeared in the living room of Lexi's apartment. As they did Alex started to move towards the bedroom. Could hear Michael saying soothing words to her daughter.

Alex's stomach clenched as worry crept into her for her daughter. As she reached the bedroom she knew they were in the bathroom, she could hear her daughter throwing up.

  “Lexi?” Alex said hoarsely.

Michael heard Alex and quickly grabbed another towel and wrapped it around his hips. Covering up his nakedness just a moment before Alex was at the doorway.

Alex looked in and saw her daughter on her knees in front of the toilet. A towel was wrapped over her shoulders covering her naked body. Alex turned back to the bedroom and grabbed a robe from the chair at the side of the bed.

Alex carried it into the bathroom and held it out to Michael who only had a towel around his hips. Alex guessed this, whatever 'this' was, had came on quickly, as they were in bed.

Michael took the robe and, in a slight interruption of the vomiting, managed to get it more or less on his mate. His own stomach was coiled so tight it hurt. His worry for his mate so much he didn't know if he could stand it.

Zach appeared at Alex's back and looked in. Saw his daughter and Michael and had deja vu.

“Alex, this reminds me of something.” Zach spoke into Alex's ear and she turned her head towards her vampire.

“What?!” Alex managed, but her tone was sharp.

“Honey, remember the day you found out you were pregnant?” Zach looked into Alex's eyes and he saw the shock there as his words registered.

“No? You think?” Alex asked and turned to look at her daughter again.

“Michael, when did this start and how.” Alex asked in a clipped tone.

Michael raised an eyebrow at Alex, the little lady had never been scared of him. Even when he had been an Angel she would snap at him and on one occasion had punched him in the jaw.

“This morning, just after she woke up. I've no idea what's wrong though. The twins don't get ill!” Michael's own tone was sharp. Did Alex not understand that if he knew what was wrong he would've fixed it.

“Ok, get some clothes on, we're going to the Clinic. We'll use a car, we're not going to just 'move' her.” Alex knew that if what her and Zach thought was the case they better not just zap her all around.

“What! Don't be silly mum, it's easier to just move her to the Clinic!” Conall was distraught and couldn't understand why they didn't just use their powers and transport her to the Clinic.

“No Conall, if it's what your father and I think she is not being 'moved'. Do not argue with me Conall!” Alex's tone was one that Conall had never heard directed at him. It was cold and firm, brooking no argument.

Michael's head swung around and looked at Alex, surely she didn't think? No, it couldn't be that? Could it?

Alex just stared back into the perfect features of the large being and raised an eyebrow. Michael gave a slight nod of his head and moved to get dressed.

Clothes were thrown on quickly and soon he was back behind his mate, bending down and picking her up.

Zach moved and appeared outside the apartment complex. He looked around and saw a large Guard getting out of a car. Zach strode towards him and the Guard straightened up and watched, wondering what the ancient vampire wanted with him?

“I need your car.” Zach stated and held his hand out. The Guard was surprised but didn't hesitate in handing over his keys.

“Sure, here.” The Guard was working later and wondered if he would need a ride to work. He wasn't going to ask when he was getting his car back though. Nope. The ancient vampire in front of him had a cold and hard look on his face. One that made sure the Guard just walked away wondering what he needed his car for.

Everyone knew he had the ability to just 'move' wherever he wanted to. As did the rest of the family.

As the Guard got to the entrance to the apartment block he held the door open as the large being, who used to be an Angel, walked out carrying one of the twins. What the hell, was something wrong with Lexi? The Guard now looked on with concern as Michael placed the very pale girl into the back of the car.

Zach got in to drive and Michael got in the back with Lexi, Alex in front. The car was quite small and there was no room for Conall

“I'll see you there.” Conall said and disappeared. He would make sure the doc was there and waiting for his sister.

The car ride to the Clinic stopped twice, Lexi vomiting out of the open car door, before they continued on. As Alex looked at her daughter she thought Zach was right. She could clearly remember being the exact same on the day they found out she was pregnant with the twins.

Alex's mind ran in circles. What would this mean for Lexi? Were all the Fallen gone because Lexi would not be going on missions if she was pregnant. Alex and Zach would not allow it, absolutely not.

Alex let out a sigh as she saw the Clinic come into view. Conall was standing outside with the doc, David, at his side. Both look worried.

Zach parked, or rather abandoned, the car and before the engine was even switched off Michael was out and picking Lexi up.

Michael strode to the door a scowl on his face as he stared at the doctor. As if it was the doc's fault Lexi was ill.

David had been through this before. He could remember clearly when Zach had grabbed him by the throat and hoisted him off the floor. He hoped Michael would not be quite as upset, though looking at the large being he didn't think that would be the case.

Alex gave David a small smile, knowing he was probably in for a rough ride.

David ran to get in front of Michael and went straight to the scan room. He wanted to see exactly what was going on inside Lexi.

Michael followed the doctor and placed Lexi onto the table in the room full of machinery. The nurse was already there with a couple of things. One was a bowl for Lexi to be sick in if she needed it. The other was a syringe and David took it from her and moved towards Lexi.

Michael's hand shot out and grabbed the doctor's arm. “What's that?!” He asked in a cold tone.

David tried to get his arm free, all this was like deja vu to him. “It's just something to stop sickness, it won't harm Lexi. Michael let me do my job.”

Michael was surprised at the strong and no nonsense tone from the doctor. Michael had always thought of him as a kinda scaredy cat. With great effort Michael released the arm and moved around the bed to hold Lexi's hand.

/>   She smiled up at him and he tried hard not to let his worry show on his face. He found it hard as his mind was completely and utterly scrambled.

David administered the injection and then got to work. He pulled a sheet up over Lexi, to her lower abdomen, then got the gel out.

“This's going to be cold Lexi.” David said calmly and placed some of the gel on her belly before taking the scanner held out to him by the nurse.

David placed the instrument on Lexi's belly and moved the gel all around before getting down to the business at hand. He moved the scanner with practised ease and kept his eyes on the screen as he did so. Slowly the scanner started to show what was going on inside the powerful twin's body.

David placed the scanner a little lower and stilled, waiting on the screen picking up what was underneath the skin and muscles. Ahh there it was. David could clearly make out what was happening. His heart beat picked up with excitement as he saw two tiny hearts beating inside Lexi.

A small smile came onto his face as he turned to look down at the pale girl, who was obviously trying hard not to vomit again. David smiled down at Lexi and she looked hopefully up at him.

Lexi just wanted to feel ok. After a lifetime of never having even a day's illness this had hit her hard. She definitely didn't like feeling ill.

“You're ok Lexi, and I can't believe I'm saying this, again! You're pregnant, with twins.” David saw the shock on her face before a smile spread across her features. She turned to look up at Michael and so did David.

Michael's mouth was hanging open and his eyes were wide. Pregnant? His little angel was pregnant?

He wasn't even sure they could have children, what with him being an ex-Angel and all. He felt as if he had been punched in the gut and tried to get a breath into his lungs.

A hard slap on his back shook him free and he smiled down at Lexi. Zach had been the one to slap him and was now grabbing Alex in a hug and picking her up, twirling her around in glee.

Conall's face was a picture, shock, happiness, fear, all were flashing across his face as he looked at his pale sister.

“Are you ok?” Lexi asked Michael who now bent down and hugged his mate.

“Me? Am I ok? What about you? How're you feeling now?” Michael was astounded she had asked about him as it had been her throwing up not him.

“I mean about this? About having children? Are you ok with that?” Lexi was trying to contain herself. Her sickness was abating but the excitement inside her was immense.

She was going to be a mother.

“Lexi we hadn't even discussed the possibility but now, here, right now, I feel as if I'm going to burst little angel. We're going to have two babies. Can you believe that Lexi? We're going to have a family!” Michael had never, not ever, thought he would be so blessed. He could barely comprehend all that was going on.

Michael could hear Zach talking to Alex.- “Alexina we're going to be grandparents. How does Grandma sound to you?”

Alex laughed. “Oh no you don't – it's going to be Nana and Papa!”

Zach kissed her nose. “We'll be whatever you want baby but I'm not doing the dirty nappies!”

Michael tuned them out as he tried to contain himself. He just wanted to scream from the rooftops.

Lexi was now laughing at her parents and so was Conall, although he was a little more restrained.

Michael had that niggling again at the edge of his senses but he totally ignored it as his mind filled with the fact that twins were now inside his mate's belly.

  *****

He stood in the shadows, hidden from view and only an attuned mind would know he was there.

The anger rolled off him in great, gigantic, waves as he watched the scene in front of him.

His little angel was pregnant. To that betrayer Michael. Michael had known how he felt about Lexi. Michael had made sure he never got alone time with her. All because Michael wanted her for himself.

His anger was getting harder to contain and he knew he would need to leave. If his anger got loose here and now he would not only take out Michael but Lexi too.

That, he couldn't have. He was going to have her. He was definitely going to have Lexi and her babies. He would be the father to the two growing inside her. Not Michael.

He would make damn sure of it. No matter what it took.
